TOP Highlights for 2019
- In May, we launched Song Bird Great Barrier Reef Rescue at Brisbane Square Library, part of Sunday in Conversation series.
- We toured Central Queensland, performing on the Capricon stage, … and at libraries and schools.
- Song Bird Rainforest Rescue was shortlisted for Speech Pathology Children’s Book of the Year. This award opened amazing opportunities for my ECO author talks and writing workshops.

Curious Creatures, Wild Minds … Book Week Author Talk
Join Karen Tyrrell on a storytelling journey to meet curious creatures and wild minds.
Book characters include Song Bird Superhero and Super Bee from Song Bird The Battle of Bug World, Rainforest Man and Dreamtime characters from Song Bird: Rainforest Rescue, KT koala from Ready Set Discover Logan, Fuzzy the dog from Bailey Beats the Blah.
Karen challenges children to use wild minds to create their own curious creatures. Author talk includes costumes, props, power point show, dramatic book readings & how to create a simple narrative.
Song Bird Series ECO Talk
Karen dressed as Song Bird Superhero and Steve playing Destructo, Super Bee, Tree Man or Reef Man present an interactive eco author talk. They take the audience on a journey through the Song Bird series discussing how to care for bees, rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef.
Bully Prevention Talk
Karen, bully prevention author, and school teacher, shares strategies for bully prevention, highlighting coping skills. Her book STOP the Bully is supported by Kids Helpline, Kids Matter and is available as an audiobook.
Self-Care, Coping skills and Resilience Talk
Karen, award-winning mental health advocate and child empowerment author presents an interactive power point talk sharing self-care, resilience and bully prevention coping strategies to promote optimum wellness and happiness.
Superhero Writing Workshop
Karen, dressed as Song Bird Superhero and Steve as Super Bee or Tree Man, present an interactive writing workshop, boosting creativity and writing skills. Children write a superhero story with SUPER characters, SUPER villains and SUPER powers.
Includes power point show, student planning sheet, costumes, and props.
Adventure Story Writing Workshop
Meet Karen Tyrrell, adventure author of Song Bird Superhero series and Super Space Kid Series. Children learn to write an exciting adventure story starring an adventure hero who solves challenges, issues and problems.
